Heap-O-Livin’ features a selection of images by Wyoming photographer and diarist Lora Webb Nichols. Nichols created and collected approximately 24,000 negatives and 65 years of diaries throughout her lifetime in the town of Encampment.
In addition to the industrial and economic aspects of this sparsely populated ranching and copper mining town, Lora’s images and diaries documented the lives of the girls and women within private households.
Despite the inherent isolation created by geography, the long brutal winters, and the patriarchal ideology that undervalued the role of women in Encampment in the late 19th and early 20th century, a robust female-led community emerged that provided a network of spiritual and emotional support. This was cultivated through the habitual visitations of immediate and extended family and friends into each other’s homes during their transition from children to wives and mothers. In Nichols’ sphere, these visitations often involved the act of picture-making.
Lora photographed their duties as mothers and homemakers but also made photographs that reveal the pleasure they experienced in simply being in each other’s company.

Medical eponyms are denominations of syndromes, diseases and discoveries that carry the name of the scientist who first isolated and described them. To this day, numerous eponyms controversially perpetuate the memory of doctors who worked under and were part of the Nazi regime. ‘The Weight of the Word’ is an extended visual essay combining archival images and texts to explore the biographies and work of nine Nazi doctors. It examines their scientific research and the subsequent damnatio memoriae following the condemnation of their actions, and offers a holistic view that intertwines their achievements, crimes, and the complex legacies they left behind.

In UKRAINE, photojournalist Eddy van Wessel documents a raw account of three years of war in Ukraine through (analogue) photography and firsthand testimonies. With decades of experience covering conflict zones, he focuses on what war means for those living through it – the soldiers on the front lines, civilians sheltering in devastated towns and cities, and those forced to flee. His images capture the visible destruction and the psychological and emotional toll of prolonged violence, making this book a visual and narrative testimony with a complex and layered depiction that is reflecting on the human cost of the largest war in Europe since World War II. It explores displacement, survival, and the boundaries of humanity in times of crisis. Where does humanity end and inhumanity begin? How do individuals maintain dignity and resilience under constant threat? What does survival look like when basic needs – and life itself – are no longer guaranteed?

In an abandoned factory in a small town in Romania, over 100 selfmade chairs where left behind when the was factory closed in 2019. In all of that industrialised and liniar atmosphere, these objects brutal beauty stood out. A reinvented shape from one workstation to another, a personalised way of support and rest. Photographed the way they were found in their original setting, which no longer exists, the work chairs represent tailored, unique shapes. Made from raw materials, they’re a mix of aesthetic intervention and functional improvisation. They took shape from the specificities of each job or the passing of time, when the work process deformed them to what they are. Were.

We are working with Rick van der Klooster on his first book: “Between the Mountain and the River”. He created a campaign to support the book, check out the link in bio for more information. 💫💫

This is his story:
“Throughout my childhood I spent the school holidays in the mountains with my mother, she often stood next to the schoolyard with a fully loaded car waiting so that we could leave immediately. It was only when she suddenly became terminally ill in 2013 that I realized how special the landscape had become for her and for me. During and after my mother’s illness, I regularly wandered through Google Earth about the places where we had often been together and imagined how she would continue to live there.
The Alps became a place where my mother could continue to live in her thoughts. The fear of going back and really losing her kept me from setting foot near my mother’s mountains for years. For years I visited my mother’s guesthouse in the Alps in my dreams. She often sat on a porch with solid wooden beams and planters filled with red flowers. We talked about what it’s like to be dead, that the world moves on and how to deal with that.
In July 2018, five years after my mother’s death, I returned to the mountains of my youth. Fearful, but determined, I entered the high forest on the border mountain and heard the river on the other side of the mountain calling me.”

‘I on the Road’ is the first book by Finnish artist Tatu Gustafsson and consists of 200 self-portraits taken with a weather cameras. When Gustafsson started making self-portraits in 2012, he was looking for an alternative way of making photographs and wanted to question the issues of authorship associated with traditional photography. Discovering that Finland’s traffic and weather cameras snap photos every 12 minutes, storing them online for 24 hours, Gustafsson made a journey across the country, positioning himself in front of these outdoor cameras. The results are haunting images that capture the essence of solitude. Utilizing over 700 roadside cameras scattered throughout Finland, Gustafsson embraced the lack of control inherent in this process. Spending a week each month living in his car, he traversed the nation, becoming a ghostly presence amidst the tranquil landscapes captured by the automated cameras.
